Mobile Phone Version of Website Design

Blackberries, iPhones, and other mobile devices are only going to become more and more popular ways to access the web. Is your site versatile enough to still look great on tiny screens? Can it work just as well when used on a crowded subway?

Maybe your web site should have a version designed just for mobile users.

Lots of sites have mobile versions. For example, compare flickr.com to Flickr’s mobile version, m.flickr.com. See the difference?

Designing a mobile version may mean…

  • trimming features, sections, or pages.
  • streamlining content or images.
  • limiting navigation options.

Getting rid of stuff might sound like no fun, but it’s worth it if it makes things easier for your users on the go. Speaking of your users…

What can your mobile site offer that your regular site can’t? Could we come up with a way to incorporate GPS? Maybe you should offer a really useful iPhone app. Maybe even give away a free one. We can talk about all that, too.

(Keep in mind, none of this will affect the design of your main site. And it won’t harm your SEO, either.)

Chances are pretty good that your competition has yet to embrace the mobile web… Now’s your chance. Contact ENGINE to take your show on the road.
